History: The Hispanic Community Group of Tennessee (HCGT)/Progreso Community Center (PCC) is the first Hispanic grassroots membership organization in Nashville, Tennessee. HCGT/PCC was created out of the need for a democratic and participatory membership organization in the Hispanic community. The creation of HCGT was conceived on February 22, 2006, and led by diverse members from our community, such as day laborers, owners and employees of small businesses, and women workers. Their organizing capacity was manifested through collective community action processes that achieved social changes for the benefit of the Hispanic community, in particular, and the Nashville community in general. HCGT inaugurated its Progreso Community Center in January of 2007, in the heart of the Hispanic community, where workshops and community-capacity building activities are implemented.
Progreso Community Center is led by Hispanic immigrants. The Executive Committee is comprised by: President: Juan Canedo, Bolivia Vice-President: Erandi García, Mexico Secretary: José "Tío Pepe" Aguilera, Mexico Treasurers: Elena López, El Salvador Francisco Reyes, Mexico
